• 11 & 12 July 2017 – A Midsummer Night’s Dream •

The Chamber Orchestra, in partnership with The Winchester Festival, performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Great Hall in Winchester on the evenings of 11 & 12 July 2017.

It was a dance and drama production of Mendelssohn’s incidental music to Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The Chamber Orchestra worked with dancers, singers and other art forms.  This was an important part of a musician’s work and Carl, HCYO’s conductor, was keen for HCYO members to experience this, irrespective if they wish to do music or not as a career.  Last year the String Orchestra took part in Britten’s Noye’s Fludde and this year is the Chamber Orchestra’s turn.

We worked for the first time with Hampshire Youth Dance (the HCYO equivalent in Dance) and are producing our own interpretation of Midsummer Night’s Dream based on the music by Mendelssohn.

‘A Re-imagined Dream’  The piece also included singers and a chamber choir of ladies’ voices.
