Welcome to the website of the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra, incorporating the Chamber Orchestra, the String Orchestra and the Percussion Ensemble.

These music ensembles are run by Hampshire Music Service and receive additional support from the Friends of the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra (Registered Charity No. 270998).

The Hampshire County Youth Orchestras give the best of the county’s music students the opportunity to perform in and around Hampshire, including internationally renown concert venues such as the Anvil, Basingstoke and the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Membership is open to any Hampshire resident in full time education and has a membership of around 150 energetic, hardworking and dedicated young musicians.

Rehearsals, at the moment, are being held at Crestwood Community School, Eastleigh (whilst there is building work being completed at our home at Thornden School, Chandler’s Ford) and the orchestras hold a week long residential course during the Easter holidays at Bryanston School in Dorset.

During the year players receive expert coaching from professional musicians as well as instrumental workshops and master classes as part of the valuable work of the Hampshire Music Service.

HCYO has also won many friends around the world with regular tours that have included South Africa and Chile as well as regular visits to European destinations as far as Poland, Hungary and the Slovakia. HCYO also has musical partnership with the Liebigschule in Gießen, Germany with regular music exchanges and joint music performances.
