• 28/01/2017 – Concert in Winchester Cathedral •

This concert consisted of strings from the Hampshire County Youth Orchestras as they joined forces with the Wessex Dance Academy and local string players for a great string and dance festival which included:

  • Spike Wilson: Cumulus
  • Jean Philippe Rameau: Suite from of ballet music from Les Indes Galante
  • Michael Betteridge: Un-Deg-Un for two percussionists – world première

Jean-Philippe Rameau wasFrench Baroque composer, famous for his dance music.  The strings from Hampshire’s County Youth Orchestra, the String Orchestra and some of the Chamber Orchestra performed a suite taken from three of his most famous operas/ballets: Les Indes Galantes, Nais & Les Boreades.

The performance was held in Winchester Cathedral and included dancers from Wessex Dance, the same people who came to the Royal Albert Hall with HCYO in November 2015.

As part of the project we looked into period performance practice, including the use of baroque bows for string players and had input from professional players from the early music world.
