• NEW COMMISSION SUPPORTED BY THE MARCHUS TRUST •

The Friends of the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra are delighted to have recently been awarded a grant from the Marchus Trust, to enable them to commission a string composition, Winchester Tales, composed by the talents of Jeff Moore. Jeff’s creations are masterful and facilitate inclusivity, as the multiple parts cater from novice players on open strings through to stretching the more advanced players of an orchestra.

The piece will be shared with all string ensembles run by the Hampshire Music Service as part of our String Project  – we hope at some point during the year, all string players in Hampshire will have the opportunity of performing the piece, either in their own area ensemble pyramids or as part of a Hampshire County Youth Orchestra led event

Winchester Tales will be performed for the first time on 1st February 2020 in Winchester Cathedral when the Hampshire County Youth String Orchestra will lead participation in a massed string ensemble event, collaborating with other young musicians drawn from local ensembles. This event is targeted at making links with the next generation of players to support their musical progression. We hope that the experience of seeing a new work come to life and the opportunity to bond with other musicians will inspire those at the start of their musical journey to persevere in developing their musicianship and the Friends would like to express their gratitude for the generosity of the Marchus Trust, enabling them to secure the foundations of this project.

Further planned performances include:

•             2nd May 2020 : The Anvil, Basingstoke
